To ensure we are provided with a steady flow of power, a dam must be built in order to retain the water for constant use. If the need arises for an increase of power, all they have to do is open the gates of the dam and release more water. In even simpler terms.... more water = more power. :)
Not only can we increase....but we can also decrease the power in one of the most efficient ways. All they have to do is close the flood gates and instantly they can begin to reduce the amount of power being produced.

By the way...don't worry... if hydroelectricity ever catches on the level of waste that usually a part of creating energy, will be close to ZERO. Hydroelectric plants recycles almost all of the water used ...right back into the plant...to make more clean, renewable energy. The water is pumped back out into a man made lake/river system, usually stocked with carp in order to keep the nutrient levels of the water high so that the land around it stays healthy. Making hydroelectric plants one of the greenest solutions to our energy needs.

Oh and did I mention that the power produced from a hydroelectric plant does not generate any emissions or waste which just happens to be much better than operating a coal-fired power plant.

Now there is also another very efficient way to generate hydropower and for this answer we look to the largest body of water on the planet...the ocean. Commonly referred to as wave power or wave energy, it uses changes in the air levels of sealed chambers in order to power some of the largest yet most efficient turbines ever made. Once a wave rises into the chamber, pressure builds up when the water meets the air thus forcing the air to squeeze though small airway ports. These airway ports are channeled directly to a highly advanced mechanism that turns the generator...and creates clean, green, renewable energy.

These hydroelectricity producing chambers remain afloat in the ocean and the only down fall you can find is that the amount of power they produce can vary. The majority of of these hydroelectric plants are found on the western coasts of Scotland, northern Canada, southern Africa, Australia, and the northwestern coasts of the United States. These systems are usually small and can power a warning buoy or a small light house.

There is also tidal energy. The difference with wave energy is that when the tide approaches, the water is trapped in reservoirs behind dams. When the tide drops, the water behind the dam is released thus producing power similar to a hydroelectric power plant.

This can only work if you have tides that are at least 16 feet and since there are only a few places on the planet that have these....this method doesn't seem very practical.

But at the very end of the line, you have ocean thermal energy. Here, you get power based on the different temperatures in the water. In order for this to work, you need at least a 38 degrees Fahrenheit difference between the warmer surface water and the colder deep ocean water. Unfortunately this method of producing hydroelectricity is still in the trial stages, and is currently being used Japan and Hawaii to determine the level its ability to become a permanent, practical solution to our non-renewable energy crises.

Overall we all must understand that hydroelectric power is one of our best solutions a green, renewable energy source. It is safe to use, produce, and it fits perfectly into our future of powering a cleaner, more advanced...GREEN planet! When a friend loses a parent we are quick to send condolences. If you are a close friend you may even offer to entertain children, screen calls, or cook meals. During these difficult times you want to be careful how you talk. It's not considered good etiquette to tell them you know how they feel, unless you also have lost a parent.
