Fear of Intimacy and Other Long-Term Effects of Abuse

ItemTitle

No matter how long ago you were abused, abuse has a way of controlling your life. It does a lot of damage, even if you don't think it was that big of a deal. All abuse (physical, emotional, spiritual and sexual) is worthy of being addressed.

Fear of Intimacy and Other Long-Term Effects of Abuse

PLANET EXPRESS

There are many excellent resources to help you take the first steps toward freedom. You may feel anxious, as if you need to find something to help you right now. The best place to begin is at the beginning.

PLANET EXPRESS

Fear of Intimacy and Other Long-Term Effects of Abuse

First, it is important for you to know that you are normal. Abuse is what is not normal. You have been intimately wounded. Everyone responds differently, but there seem to be certain feelings and experiences that are common among survivors:

Fear of Intimacy and Other Long-Term Effects of Abuse

Isolation or loneliness. That terrible sensation that no one understands you... no one gets it. You may feel like an alien visitor from another planet, as if you've been dropped to earth with no preparation to live here. Many of us survivors of abuse feel very alone, even in a crowded room or around people we live with and love. That sense of isolation exists because abuse taught us to be silent, to carry our secrets and experiences privately. The isolation is energized by the shame, fear, and guilt attached to the abuse. Because of the twisted nature of sexual abuse and the dysfunctional relationships that many of us grew up with, we have no sense of what so-called normal is. You may socialize well and know what to do; but there is often a huge lonely ache inside that no one else can see. Intimacy is terrifying for an abuse survivor. It is one of the many broken places that remains long after the abuse ends.

Sexual confusion or dysfunction. Sexual abuse is not only abuse, it is also sexual. Your abusers became your sexual mentors. They taught you to perform, to lie, to devalue or degrade yourself, and to connect abnormal sexual experiences with normal longings for intimacy and touch. Many of us have a strong sense that our bodies betrayed us because we experienced pleasure or gained something because of the abuse. As a result, we, as sexual beings, approach our sexuality and sexual experiences with confusion. It feels as if everything in life is about sex. This is true on both ends of the sexual spectrum. If you are a sex addict and constantly crave risk-taking, degrading sexual experiences, it's all about sex. On the other end, if you are repulsed by sex, avoid sexual experiences and despise your own sexuality, it is still all about sex.

Sexual abuse survivors struggle to accept touch without associating it with sex. Sex is frequently used as a way to either avoid intimacy or express rage or power (either by withholding or giving). Sexual abuse survivors frequently have problems experiencing orgasm, even when they willingly participate in sex. Often, we do not know what to do with the sexual ache that drives us into sexual relationships or experiences. Once sex begins, it becomes very confusing as our mind, spirit and body cease to work together. Then pleasure, gratification, or fulfillment seem lost in the chaos. You and your partner frequently end up using, wounding, or abandoning each other because the lessons of abuse are so deeply rooted in you.

Anger management problems. Rage is a frequent problem for abuse survivors. It is generally expressed in one of three ways. Some people lash out at other people, using their anger to control circumstances. Others keep it inside and beat themselves up, instead. And some people do both - lash out at others and rage at themselves. This anger stems from deep hurt, extreme frustration, or fear. To control the anger (either internally or externally) can be exhausting. Frequently, survivors feel so overwhelmed that they give up even trying to manage it.

Body image and treatment. Most of us have concluded that our bodies are the enemy - something to be treated harshly or without respect. We don't necessarily do this at a conscious level, but we express it with our lifestyles. We either eat too much, too quickly, or we starve ourselves. Some of us abuse drugs or alcohol. Perhaps you hurt yourself with self-inflicted wounds or work so much that you are beyond exhaustion. Many of us feel completely disconnected from our bodies and never pay attention to our body language. We don't know if we're hungry or tired; in pain or pleasure; we are well-practiced at ignoring or silencing our physical needs. You may push and push and push yourself, or numb yourself with food, drugs or sex. As you journey toward freedom, you must understand that your body did not betray you; your abuser(s) betrayed you.

Ineffective expression of needs or longings. Abuse teaches you that your needs, longings and opinions do not matter (at least not to your abusers). Abuse changes the way you express yourself. Many of us struggle to express our true needs or longings. We cloak our desires because of the pain experienced when those longings were mishandled by others. At the same time, those needs and longings still exist and beg to be heard. Perhaps your need to be held as a child was frequently met at the expense of abuse, so you learned to hate what you needed. But the dilemma remains: You still have needs and longings. Because of this inner conflict, desires are often expressed in ineffective or destructive ways. We alienate people through unreasonable demands, silence, or abusive manipulation. Learning to balance the pressure of unmet needs with effective expression and respect are challenges that survivors must confront.

Escape mentality. When you were abused, you had to find a way to cope. Many of us learned to escape, mentally, by checking out of reality and entering a self-created fantasy world in order to avoid truth. This coping mechanism established patterns of living that are no longer serving you well. Rather than embracing life and doing the hard work of taking ownership of who you are, you use trusted escape routes that have alienated you from relationships, career, school, or God. You may wrap a cocoon of sleep, TV, work, drugs, books, video games, etc., around you to avoid life and people. This may feel safe to you, but you may place yourself in situations that are harmful or self-defeating because you are so unaware of what's going on. It is a challenge to remain focused on reality in order to make good decisions or take healthy actions.

Damaged spirit. Abuse rips apart the spiritual life of a survivor. The very thing that God placed in us to connect, spiritually, is detached or re-wired to create a sense of meaningless existence or hopelessness. Even if you have pursued a relationship with God, there may be an underlying struggle to feel spiritually alive. Repairing the spiritual damage caused by abuse is an integral part of the journey toward wholeness. It is full of difficult questions and an intimate sense of betrayal. At the same time, in the core of your heart, is a hunger for something better, for something bigger than the cruelty, perversion and evil you experienced through abuse. It is this hunger that propels many of us to re-establish the broken connection with God. In the face of all that is wrong, there is a tiny flicker of God's love that begs to be fanned into a flame of spiritual vitality. Ultimately, evil can motivate us to pursue something better - to pursue faith, hope and love.

Questions. Abuse burns tough questions into the souls of its victims. Why is there evil? Why do bad things happen to innocent children? Where was God, and why wasn't I protected? Where were my protectors - mother, father, family and friends? Do I really want out of my angst, or do I want to remain a victim where I know the rules of engagement? Why can't I remember big parts of my childhood? How do I move beyond what was done to me? When will the pain and chaos end?

These are only a few of the questions you will probably ask at some point in your journey toward wholeness. They are questions that are worthy of thoughtful exploration. Some questions will receive a satisfactory answer. Others will never be adequately answered: It is both the glory and the frustration of breaking free from the past. The ultimate question you must ask yourself is this: Am I a cynic or a seeker? Do I really want to find solutions or do I want to cross my arms in stubborn determination to remain unchanged?

The process of moving beyond your abuse involves an exchange.

You will need to exchange the lies that abuse taught you about yourself, the world and God, for truth:

Truth about your worth; Truth that yes, there is evil, but there is also good in the world; Truth that spiritual wholeness is not a fantasy. It is the reality of relationship with God.

Remember: anything worth having or achieving is worth working for. God never promised our journey would be easy. He promised He would be with us every step of the way. Trust Him! And trust yourself, eventually.

PLANET EXPRESS

The Planet 51 Movie and Related Planet 51 Toys - Mini Bump & Go Rover

If you have seen the movie or heard about it you have probably heard about Rover. Rover is the fun loving robot. Rover looks much like a Lunar or Martian rover, and he acts much like a dog. Rover is white and black and his tricks are sure to make anyone have a great time. Rover's primary duty is to discover Chuck the spaceman, who landed on Planet 51 and is hiding from the Planet 51 residents, and his second task is to collect pebbles.

The Planet 51 Movie and Related Planet 51 Toys - Mini Bump & Go Rover

One of the first scenes that you see Rover in the movie is when he gets free from the holding facility that he is locked up in. Some of Rover's hiding locations prove to be quite funny. Rover often makes the individuals searching for him trip over themselves. He eventually does escape and sets off to discover Chuck the spaceman, who landed from earth on Planet 51. Rover gets sidetracked many times by different pebbles. One rock Rover picks up has a insect sitting on it and he does funny things to get rid of it. Rover moves the creature off the rock. The insect apparently does not get the messges and Rover ends up squishing the creature with the rock. One of the many humorous moments of the movie.

Rover falls in love with Planet 51's special rain. Planet 51's rain is very different than our rain. Instead of water, stones drops like we have water on the Earth. Planet 51 has pebble rain. Small pebbles of rocks plummet down and bounce around on Planet 51's surface. This makes the tiny Rover very happy. He starts to prance around gathering rocks. In the Planet 51 movie Rover dances in tune to I'm singing in the rain and even twirls around a traffic light. This made the small Rover very happy. In addition to collecting rocks, Rover enjoys playing fetch. Skiff, who is a character in the Planet 51 movie and Lem's good friend, becomes very fond of Rover and often plays fetching with Rover. Rover enjoys playing fetch with rocks. Rover's attention is also drawn to a certain Planet 51 dog. This dog looks somewhat like the space creature from the movie Aliens, and when he makes use of the bathroom it ruins whatever it uses. It often runs after Rover trying to make buddies with him.

In the movie Rover is key in aiding Chuck and Lem to flee. Rover gets ensnared himself but manages to flee. When they try to figure out how Rover flees, Rover tells them that he took the screws out of the cage that meant to hold him. He then goes and aids the crew rescue Chuck and escapes from the grasp of General Grawl. After they come home and get everything sorted out, even making buddies with General Grawl after all, it is time for Chuck, the spaceman, and Rover to exit Planet 51. Skiff who has become very attached to his tiny pal gets very sad and starts crying. Chuck sees how sad Skiff and Rover are and asks Rover if he wants to stay on Planet 51. In response Rover mows down Skiff and acts like a very pleased little dog.

If you love this cute little Rover's tale on the Planet 51 movie, you may like to get your kid s the Rover toy. There are not a lot of Planet 51 movie toys currently available, but this one has been is out in stores for a short time only and is becoming very popular. This model is the Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover. This Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover toy is about 1.5 inches and is an exact imitation of the movie Rover. This Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover toy will be a great gift for any boy or girl.

Your boy or girl can recreate almost any scene from Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover. Your child can get some small pebbles, aquarium grade pebbles would be wonderful. You could also buy some plastic light poles or traffic lights. You can come across these at several novelty toy stores. After collecting all these materials, they can take their Mini Bump & Go Rover's and reconstruct the famous Singing in the rain scene from the Planet 51 movie. This will be a wonderful educational tool that will allow your kids to interact with each other and other individuals. In addition this will aid your child's memory. They will have to remember the different scenes Rover lived while moving as the Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rove in the Planet 51 movie.

Another famous Planet 51 movie scene your kid can re-tell with Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover is the great escape and how Rover assists the rest of the group. This is a wonderful scene that your girl or boy can get into retelling. With the Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover your children can also make up their own adventures for Rover. Maybe Rover has to go on a special trip. Maybe Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover has to bring Skiff and the rest of the group back to Earth to help Chuck somehow. Maybe Rover finds another Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover to be pal with, or maybe Rover decides that he wants to explore the great outdoors and go on a rock collecting task. This Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover rock collecting task could be quite instructive. You could even have your child go on a covert hunt with the Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover. This will add a lot of enlightening playtime to your child's life.

When looking for this Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover be sure to check a lot of the internet sites for additional toy models. More and more are being released, and you can probably discover them on sale. It would help you to go to your most liked search engine and search for this great toys. You could also do a general search for Planet 51 toys and come across many to choose from. This fantastic Mini Vehicle Bump & Go Rover is just the first of many great toys to be released from this movie.

I am sure that Amazon has got all the Planet 51 movie toys available today, including the figures Chuck, Lem, the Mini Bump & Go Rover and the 3 inch soldier figurines. These toy soldiers are exact replicas of the aliens of Planet 51. In case you want to incorporate the mini vehicle figure 2-pack Military truck & tank toy, the military tank and truck toys are very well crafted. The toys look really like the ones that are featured in the Planet 51movie. Remember when searching for the Planet 51 toys, these toys are very new and can be somewhat difficult to find, and may be even out of stock already. But once you find the 3 inch Mini Bump & Go Rover, you will have a great toy for your child. Although this may not be enough, and you may need to add a few different Planet 51 movie toys to start the collection. His/Her Birthday may be close too and you will already have an idea on what present to buy, Guess what? Another few Planet 51 movie toys!

Your Key Planet and What It Reveals About You

Attributes of the planets were once so well-known and accepted that they crept into our language. Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language describes a Saturnine individual as one who is sluggish, gloomy, morose, grave and taciturn--"born under the supposed influence of the planet Saturn." A Mercurial individual is described as having qualities attributed to the god Mercury or supposedly influenced by the planet Mercury--eloquent, clever, shrewd, or having qualities suggestive of the metal mercury: quick, quick-witted, volatile, changeable, fickle. The dictionary also defines the Jovial type (ruled by Jupiter), the venial or venereal sin (related to Venus), and the lunatic (affected by the Moon). Let's look at brief descriptions of the planetary types. Whole books have been written about each of them, so consult them if you feel a need to flesh out your understanding.

The Solar type: (Ruled by the Sun or the sign Leo) This somewhat regal individual has a strong need to shine, to stand out in bold relief, and often does just that. All the self words are emphasized: self-expression, self-confidence or self-consciousness, self-development, self-obsession, and even selfishness. At worst, the person can have a big ego and an insatiable need to be noticed, even the center of attention.

PLANET EXPRESS

Your Key Planet and What It Reveals About You

The Lunar type: (Ruled by the Moon or the Sign Cancer) This is someone who expends much energy tending to lunar concerns. These include nurturing, food, the home, security, women and women's needs, family, and the emotions. The past and family of origin figure strongly in the person's behavior, habits, and emotional issues and are often carried into adult life.

Your Key Planet and What It Reveals About You

The Mercurial type: (Ruled by Mercury or the signs Gemini or Virgo) Here is a natural communicator who would do well to earn a living using those skills. Otherwise the energy is squandered on the phone, the Internet, or in incessant chatter. These individuals are restless, changeable, and incurably curious. They don't tolerate boredom well. They are cerebral and even intellectual, and often have a keen sense of humor.

The Venusian type: (Ruled by Venus or the signs Libra or Taurus) For them, relationships are paramount, and they feel unfulfilled without a partner. Romantic, charming, often attractive if overly concerned with appearance, they hunger for a steady dose of affection and warmth from those around them. Considerate, caring individuals, they often vacillate on decisions because they want to please everyone and keep the peace. They can be too other-directed and thus lack the drive to accomplish things for their own sake.

The Martial type: (Ruled by Mars or the sign Aries) These people are action-oriented, often rashly leaping to act before careful thought or planning. They are often seen as leaders because they have abundant energy, drive, zeal, and sureness about their aims. They can be aggressive, hot-headed or competitive and lack patience with slower, less certain folks. Easily irritated, but the sign and aspects of Mars determine how readily they show anger and how it is expressed.

The Jovial type: (Ruled by Jupiter or the sign Sagittarius)This type seeks answers to the big questions of life. In that quest, they tend to be perpetual scholars, whether in formal schooling or self-taught. Once they find an answer they like, they aren't shy about carrying the word enthusiastically to others. Thus they are often formal or informal teachers, preachers, or public relations people. They can be conventional, moralistic, and preachy, but generous, with a good, though convoluted sense of humor. Optimistic by nature, they seek to uplift and encourage others and to find lessons in every trial.

The Saturnine type: (Ruled by Saturn or the sign Capricorn)These people early in life form strong goals and devote much of the available time to fulfilling them. Serious, focused, reliable, dutiful, responsible, and capable beyond their years, they can also be somber perfectionists or depressed, anxious workaholics, especially when stymied in accomplishing their lofty aims. The older they get and the more of their goals they fulfill, the more they grow mellow and cut themselves some slack. They can become the elders of the tribe, with valuable practical experience to pass along.

The Uranian type: (Ruled by Uranus or the sign Aquarius)These individualists--one might even say characters--abound in eccentricities that can either endear or drive others up the wall. They can rebel when society exerts too much pressure to conform to rules that go against their grain. Often advanced in ideas, supportive of social causes, or brilliantly inventive, these folks will often be avant guard, seldom mainstream, though they can start fads. Their beleaguered parents somehow survive a stormy adolescence, when authority is perpetually questioned. They can be contrary and often discard a workable system simply because it is passé.

The Neptunian type: (Ruled by Neptune or the sign Pisces) Much like the haze that surrounds their signature planet, these beings can be confused and confusing. Their perceptions are less focused on the material world than on realms beyond--the spiritual, the astral, the creative, and the imaginary dimensions. Hard to pin down, they can shift between savior or saved, nurse or patient, saint or sinner, spiritual seeker or lost soul, inspiration or delusion. Some are prone to addictions or fantasy to escape a reality that doesn't fit their dreams. However, they can turn that pattern around, and when they do, they have much to teach all of us in this addictive era.

The Plutonian type: (Ruled by Pluto or the sign Scorpio) Often suffering painful betrayals, losses, and abuses of power in early years, these hawk-eyed observers of humanity, and of life itself, can be wary and mistrustful. Their perceptions are keen, deep, and accurate, yet the conclusions they draw can be distorted by old traumas. Shown a path to healing, they will work obsessively to overcome their own ills, or those of others, or those of society as a whole. Many become therapists, healers, or social reformers. (I devoted an entire book, Healing Pluto Problems, to these valiant souls.)

Outer Planet People: Commonly encountered in astrology and New Age circles, but seldom in the teller's cage at the bank, are what I call Outer Planet People or OPPs. In their charts, two or more of the outer planets--Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto--are heavily emphasized. There are sub-races of OPPS--the Uranus-Neptune type versus the Pluto-Uranus type versus the Pluto-Neptune type, as detailed in The Outer Planets and Inner Life, Volume . However, they all share the distinction of not being "of this world" and of feeling set apart and alienated from earthlings. Many would characterize themselves as Starseed. (If you don't know what Starseed are, there is a strong chance you either aren't an OPP or else are in denial about your origins.)
OPPs typically do not come into their own until the midlife cycle hits, when they are empowered by double doses of outer planet energies. (In the late thirties to mid-forties, transiting Neptune squares natal Neptune, Uranus opposes natal Uranus, and Pluto squares natal Pluto.) At that time, they with others of their generation gather the courage to fully express the outer planets and to remember their incarnational purposes. With all the outer planets in universal signs for the next several decades, we desperately need their help for the earth to survive and for all of us to shift to a global/galactic culture.

What's more, some people have a fear of expressing themselves at all. They're afraid to say something that might cost them a friendship. Or they bottle everything up tight and seize up at the mere thought of sharing their true emotions.

PLANET EXPRESS

How to Express Yourself to Others

This can be a constant struggle for people. However, it is something that can be conquered. If you are struggling to express yourself to others, or you know of someone who struggles, then read on. This article will show you what you can do to open up with others.

How to Express Yourself to Others

THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION

Every being on the planet communicates in some fashion. And the more complex the form of communication is, you will find more complex relationships as well.

Human speech is the most complicated form of communication in the world. We have so many ways to express ideas, feelings, dreams, suggestions, thoughts, intents, love, rage, desire, and so forth. Consider this list of words:

Tiny Sizable Usual Big Small Large Normal Gigantic Minuscule Humongous Microscopic Minute Huge Average Outsized Regular Short Tall

All of these words are indefinable. Try to define 'big'. Uh, not small? Then what is 'small'? Not big? You see, these words convey subtle differences to us, and yet they are all relative words. They depend upon what you are comparing them to. An ant is tiny compared to an elephant, but is large compared to a fruit fly, while the elephant is microscopic when compared to our solar-system.

Words have meaning to us. Subtle differences in each word will convey a slightly different idea. Huge and gigantic have subtle differences. We think of gigantic as bigger than huge. Thus, the words you use in your relationships are of powerful importance. The person who said, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me," never had a complex and in-depth relationship. Words can hurt.

Words have the power to give life and death...especially in relationships.

So it is important that you learn to express yourself. You must learn to convey your thoughts, ideas, dreams, ambitions, hopes and emotions to those that you share a relationship with. Your inability to do so, will damage your relationships.

DANGERS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO EXPRESS YOURSELF

If you have a fear of people, people will avoid you. It's a vicious cycle. You avoid people because you fear that they will hurt you. People see your aloofness, and either think the worst (that you're stuck up), or grant your desire and leave you alone. Then you wonder why it is that no one likes you. When you can't open up to people, people will feel that you are unapproachable. You'll have a hard time getting close to people when you bottle everything up inside. Your relationships will all be shallow. Your inability to express yourself will haunt you in times of trouble. You'll need help, you'll want help, but you won't seek it. You'll hide. So, no one helps you. Then you grow resentful and angry. Another danger is that of isolation. You build walls around your emotions and people instinctively leave you alone. That might be what you wanted at first, but your life will be barren, and empty. Life is relationships. The stronger your relationships the more joy you'll have in life. No matter if it is with your mate, God, children, neighbors, co-workers, friends, relatives, or even yourself, you must learn to express yourself.

TIPS ON EXPRESSING YOURSELF

Do A Lot Of Reading

Reading will help you learn how other people express themselves. Pay attention to word usage, diction, flow, voice and tone. These will give you ideas on expressing yourself.

Look up words that you've never seen before. Use them. They'll provide you with many and myriad ways of expressing your emotions. Often, I've found that a single word does better expressing what I feel than an entire paragraph of sentences. Learning new words will help you express yourself better and reading will help you to learn different ways to do so.

A wise man once said, not every reader is a leader, but every leader is a reader.

Do Some Writing On Your Own

Do a variety of writing. Start a novel. Write letters. Keep a journal or diary. Often, you'll find that writing helps you to think your thoughts through. In the heat of an argument, you'll often say what you don't mean in a tone that creates more resentment. Writing will help you organize your thoughts. It'll give you focus and direction.

Don't Fear People's Judgment

Social anxiety is not a disease. You can't catch it from someone who has it. It is a spiritual state of mind that is the direct result of fear. There is really only one type of fear and that is the fear of the unknown. Don't fear what other people think about you. Honestly, your imagination will create far worse scenarios than what most people will ever think.

To overcome your fear, try asking for their help. Try this, "I'm having a hard time expressing myself, and I thought maybe you could help me." Saying that will invoke an instinctual need that most everyone has-the desire to help and feel needed. Hardly anyone will be critical of you when you've asked for their help.

It also sets the stage to retract what you may say when you say it wrong. Since you've already warned them that you are struggling with expressing yourself, when you actually struggle with it, they'll just shrug it off. It's a great tool to overcoming your fear of other people's judgment.

When You're Upset, Write A Letter

If you're furious at someone, then go ahead and write them a nasty letter. Just don't give it to them. Sleep on it. The next morning, go back over the letter. You'll find that your attitudes and perspective have shifted. I seriously doubt you'll send the letter under those conditions.

But more than that, sending someone a letter that is well thought out is a great idea when you're trying to express yourself. Look, letters can't be argued with, they can't be interrupted, and you can't derail the train of thought. In fact, even if the letter is negative, most people will read it all the way through.

Sometimes a well worded letter will allow you to convey your feelings where a conversation would not.

Be Mature When You Express Yourself

I don't take people seriously when they rant, rave, swear, cuss, insult, deride, mock, or get stubborn. These are immature attitudes that prevent and hinder the expression process.

Here is a rule of thumb. If they are willing to talk about others behind their back, they will do it to you too. Let's stay away from the unproductive gossip, the insults, the profanity, and the finger pointing. These accomplish nothing. Think about it, when is the last time you actually made a situation better by swearing at someone? Maturity in conversation is thoughtfulness, consideration, and the willingness to listen. Show respect to others and they will respect you.

Ask Questions

You'll be amazed at how easy it is to express yourself in the form of a question.

But the short of it is this, questions allow you to interact with others. They involve you in their thoughts, feelings, worries, and cares. This provides an opportunity to express yourself better to them. Expression is best done when there is good interaction. Thoughtful questions provide this platform.

Think of color found in beads as containing all the beautiful hues of the planet. You can touch them, string them, weave them and fire them. No matter what you do they will always remain what they are, beads that you can incorporate into your handmade beaded jewelry. Beading is unlike any other art forms. Once paint is extracted from the tube or jar, it is usually gone forever. Unlike beads which, you can rearrange as many times until you are satisfied with the design.

Design Your Own Jewelry - Using Color to Express Yourself

Go Purchase a Box and Use the Crayons to Enhance your Handmade Jewelry and Sketching

To further understand how the use of color can enhance your handmade beaded jewelry, transport yourself back to your childhood and think of how you use color to express your feelings and your thoughts. Blending the wonderful colors of tempera to create all those interesting combinations, and sometime we would take them to the extreme until they became black or brown. We did not care, we just enjoyed the process. Adding color to our jewelry making is the same. It is a process that evolves and changes as you become more confident with the color combinations you use..

For good "adult measure", let's review the basics;

Primary: the three primary colors: red, blue and yellow. These are the three colors that serve as a base to all other colors.

Secondary: These are the colors found at the points between each corner of that triangle. Mix blue and red together and you will get purple. Red and yellow make orange. Yellow plus blue makes green.

Tertiary: are achieved by combining the secondary colors. They are the colors that lie in between the primary and secondary colors..
Things begin to get a little more complicated when we consider different combination using the color wheel. Do not let this intimidate you, remember practice is always helpful..

Analog: These are the colors found on either side of any given color. Often these are the colors schemes found in nature. Using analog colors in jewelry making usually feels harmonious. Secondary colors can often be an analogous color. Think of the turning of the leaves in the fall, those wonderful deep yellows, oranges and reds all together to give us a warm palette. The deep blues and light blues of the ocean create a cool palette..

Split Complementary Colors: This is a combination of a split complementary color and an analogous color. Using split complementary colors can give you a design with a high degree of contrast. When combined with the direct complimentary color it results in great color harmony.

Triad Colors: Triad colors are the three hues equidistant on the color wheel. When you want a design that is colorful and yet balanced a triad color scheme might be the way to go.

Applying the Theory to your Beaded Jewelry

The best rule to follow as you incorporate color into you handmade beaded jewelry, is to always remember that you need to please yourself first. The best color combination are those that make you feel great! Play and experiment, there are no mistakes to be made. Try different colors and a variety of combinations until you are satisfied with the results.

Using proper lighting can help you select the best combination for your handmade beaded jewelry. Invest in a natural light lamp. They can be expensive, but you will save your eyes and money in the long run. When designing your handmade beaded jewelry keep the background neutral. You may want to have both a black and white surface you can alternate as you decide on the colors you will use.

Many times, I will draw the different combination in my sketch book. This is particularly helpful when I am attending a bead show and want to select the right color beads to enhance my handmade beaded jewelry. I keep a box of Prismacolor pencils in my design table to use when I am considering different color combination. Another helpful tool is a color wheel, which you can purchase in an art supply store. Another wise investment is to purchase an artist guide to color book. Artist's Color Manual by Michael Jennings. This book combines useful information with appealing photos. It includes helpful color swatches and color theory basics.

Remember enjoy the process and the use of this theory to highlight you handmade beaded jewelry.

The three dimensional Cube derives from the two dimensional Square. The Square is not a shape indigenous to Nature. The Sacred Cube Symbol

The Cube is a very prominent symbol that is found in the three great monotheistic (One God) traditions of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. The Cube in Islam is the Kaaba ('Arabic for "cube") in the Holy City of Makkah, which houses the Black Stone. The Cube in Judaism is the Tephillin. In Christianity, the Cube is the Cornerstone of the Temple that the builders rejected.

The Cross is the Cube unfolded. When the Cube is unfolded it forms a seven part Cross. The Cube (Yahweh concealed) is the Cross (Yahweh revealed).

The Hebrew word Mitzvoth ("Commandments"), as found in Leviticus 4:27 has the gematria of 576 (12x8x6). One interesting concept is that the Ten Commandments were not "tablets" of stone, but "cubes" of sapphire stone, because the Hebrew word "luhoth" also means, "cubes."

Games for Girls: Movie Star Planet

Movie star planet is a combination of several different types of games. The result is an imaginative experience that caters to an escape from the everyday routine. It combines the entertainment of a dress up game as you get to dress your character in several chic styles. It involves a little bit of action, too, as you maneuver the character between photos and autographs to get the best score. This segment may take a little bit of practice to get a perfect score.

Games for Girls: Movie Star Planet

It also contributes to reading and comprehension skills. You will notice that the TV interview offers several multiple choice answers in response to the interview questions. You can express your characters attitude and personality according to the answers you choose. Finally, the end results of the game display an attractive magazine article where you can practice your reading skills by finding out what the media has to say about your Hollywood icon.

At the beginning of playing Movie Star Planet you are presented with the option to choose from one of three famous female celebrities. The first scenario involves you as the celebrity character preparing to attend a movie premier where paparazzi and the press will be present. The celebrity has to look her best for the photograph taking and autograph giving. You will notice that the agenda has different suggestions for each character based on the event they're attending. Next, you have a choice of four outfits to select the most appropriate one.

The next level involves a little more skill as you move the character back and forth between picture taking and signing autographs. You have one minute to try to pose for as many pictures and sign as many autographs as you can to get the best score. Remember, the media is judging you by how well you pose for pictures and how generous you are with your autographs. Next your character will participate in a TV interview. You will be asked a series of questions where you can choose from several different answers. Your results are then displayed in the form of two pages of a gossip magazine. Check out your star score to see how well you did!

You can continue playing by proceeding to Day 2 and following the schedule on your agenda. You will be going to a cafe so choose an appropriate outfit for your setting. Once again you will need to pose for photos and sign autographs. Get ready for another TV interview and answer a few more questions. The game will follow a similar form for day 3 as well. You can mix and match your choices of outfits and interview answers but remember, the better you do the higher your star score will be. Try and score all five stars!

Radiation therapy, often used to help stop the growth and spread of cancerous cells, is perhaps the most widely used form of radiation. There are two forms of therapy using this fairly new science: external and internal radiation. External radiation is simply using large machines to aim specific amounts of radiation directly at cancerous cells, while internal therapy may consist of placing a radioactive pellet directly into the body and is usually only used in adults. The high energy form of radiation that is used in these therapies can be a needed and powerful tool in the treatment of cancer.

It's Not All Bad - Positive Uses For Radiation

Even your daily activities consist of using radiation in a positive manner in ways that are considered so normal that we do not even think twice about using the products. Any time you go to the dentists office or break a bone and go to see your family physician you are exposed to X-ray machines. These tools are useful in diagnosing ailments and to discover the root causes of many physical problems. Furthermore, your home is no safe haven as simple household items such as your microwave produce non-ionizing radiation; a form of radiation that does not have cancer risks associated with it like its sister ionizing form found in ultraviolet light or high energy particles.

It's Not All Bad - Positive Uses For Radiation

In a wider community wide or industrial use, radiation can be used both for energy production and food sterilization. Nuclear radiation is the basis for nuclear physics and nuclear fission, both of which have been monumental scientific discoveries that have led to mass electricity production and countless medicinal and industrial advances. Irradiation is the technical term that is used to describe forms of sterilization currently used by the United States Postal Service to sterilize mail in Washington D.C., and that is used in processes such as food preservation. Since X-rays and gamma rays are used in irradiation materials subjected to it do not become radioactive, so no need to worry about the adverse health effects of opening your mail.

Positive scientific advances, medicinal treatments, household items, and trips to your local dentist are only a few ways that mankind has found to further our knowledge and successes in many different fields. While radiation can be extremely harmful if not monitored and used properly it can also be a tremendous benefit to many fields of study and our industry. There are countless other forms and uses for it and through responsibility we can continue to harness its healing and advancing power.

What's more, some people have a fear of expressing themselves at all. They're afraid to say something that might cost them a friendship. Or they bottle everything up tight and seize up at the mere thought of sharing their true emotions.
